A recent commission
Hello, I'm Sarah

Two years ago, after a particularly stressful period, I picked up my pencils again — a love I'd had as a little girl and somewhere along the way had let go of. Drawing was how I switched off. Quietly, it grew into portraits for friends, then for their friends, and now for people all over the world.

About me

The story behind the pencils

Sarah, the artist, holding one of her hand-drawn pet portraits

Three years ago, life became about as overwhelming as it's ever been. We had just welcomed our second child — my little boy, Rafe — and we were meant to be moving into a new home. We'd paid a building company a large sum of money to carry out renovation works so it would be ready for our growing family.

It never happened. The excuses kept coming, and then they simply disappeared — our money too — and we were left with a house we couldn't live in, a newborn baby and a two-year-old.

As a child, I spent countless hours in my own world, doodling away — animals were always my favourite subject. From a young age I've adored them, becoming a vegetarian at the age of nine and drawing posters of animals that I put up around our village.

Somewhere in growing up I set it all aside and ended up pursuing a different, corporate career. Re-finding art gave me a way to switch off — an hour where the worry went quiet and there was only the paper and the next small stroke.

At first I drew for family and friends. Then a friend of a friend asked, and then a stranger, and the quiet thing I did to cope slowly became something people wanted in their homes.

How to book your portrait

From first message to the finished piece on your wall — here's how it works. It's relaxed, and I'll guide you at every step.

Send your enquiry

Use the form below to tell me a little about your pet — the type of animal, the size you'd like, and when you'd love to have it by. No detail is too small.

Share your photos

I'll ask for a clear, well-lit photo to work from (there's a short guide to the perfect photo below). If your pet has passed and you don't have an ideal picture, please still get in touch — I'll work my magic with what you have.

We confirm the details

I'll confirm the size, the price and a realistic timeline, and answer any questions. Once you're completely happy, a small deposit secures your place in my commission diary.

Your portrait is created

Then the lovely part: I draw your pet by hand, layer by layer. I'll usually share a progress photo along the way so you can watch them come to life.

Delivered to your door

Your finished portrait is mounted, carefully packaged and posted to you — ready to frame and treasure.

The perfect photo

The better the photo, the more of your pet's character I can capture. Where you can:

  • Take it in good natural light — near a window or outdoors on a bright day.
  • Get down to their eye level, rather than shooting from above.
  • Keep it sharp and close enough to see their markings and the sparkle in their eyes.
  • A photo that really looks like them matters more than a perfect pose.

And if your beloved companion is no longer with us and a good photo simply isn't there — don't worry. Send me whatever you have, and I'll work my magic.
